<descript>
This polygon feature class represents the spatial extent and boundaries for BLM Grazing Pastures. A grazing pasture is simply a subset of a grazing allotment, where the grazing of livestock occurs. An allotment has one or many pastures, or an allotment can have no pastures on it at all.
<purpose>This feature class represents the polygon features that show the boundaries for the BLM Grazing Pastures.
These pasture attributes may be duplicated in RAS, but are considered minimum information for unique identification and cartographic purposes. During the physical implementation of Grazing Allotments and Pastures, if an Allotment does not have any associated Pasture information, one Pasture will be created from/matching the Allotment boundary. A code of “99” will be entered into the PAST_NO (Pasture Number) field to indicate that the Pasture arcs and polygons are derived and need to be updated with real information by the appropriate office.</purpose>

A published revision of the Department Manual’s Part 305: Departmental Science Effects, Chapter 3: Integrity of Scientific and Scholarly Activities (305 DM 3), effective December 16, 2014, is available online at http://elips.doi.gov/ELIPS/DocView.aspx?id=4056. Scholarly information considered in Departmental decision making must be robust, of the highest quality, and the result of as rigorous scientific and scholarly processes as can be achieved. Most importantly, it must be trustworthy. This policy helps us to achieve that standard (http://www.doi.gov/scientificintegrity/index.cfm).
Each state office has a Data Steward or Contact Person for this data. Please contact the specific state office for additional information on their state dataset.</supplinf>

The logical consistency of this dataset reflects that of the source datasets. Each source dataset is run through a series of tests to verify that the data complies with the format specified in the Data Standard. ERRORS AND INCONSISTENCIES MAY STILL BE PRESENT IN THE DATA. These tests were conducted using ESRI ArcMap 10.1. The tests consisted of checking coded values for attributes against a domain of accepted values, checking that alpha-numeric values followed a valid format, and checking that numeric values were greater than zero. For the geometry, the topology was validated; however overlaps and gaps can still be found.</logic>

<overview>
<eaover>From the Pasture and Allotment Boundaries Schema Workbook:
States may extend and expand upon this guideline in order to meet their specific needs, provided that when the data is pushed up to the national level, it will meet the minimum requirements as set forth in the Data Standard. The arc information and the feature level metadata will exist in the arc feature class. The Allotment information will exist within the Pastures dataset and as such the Allotments spatial dataset will be a derived product from Pastures.
The attribute data required is minimal, as the majority of the analysis information will come from the RAS database. The attribute ST_ALLOT_PAST in the ‘gra_past_poly’ table will serve as the unique national identifier that will allow connection to the existing RAS database.</eaover>

<idAbs>This polygon feature class represents the spatial extent and boundaries for BLM Grazing Pastures. A grazing pasture is simply a subset of a grazing allotment, where the grazing of livestock occurs. An allotment can have one or many pastures, or an allotment can have no pastures at all.
This national dataset is an aggregation from multiple datasets provided by the BLM Administrative States. Errors and inconsistencies may still be present in the data.</idAbs>
<idPurp>This feature class represents the polygon features that show the boundaries for the BLM Grazing Pastures. A code of “99” will be entered into the PAST_NO (Pasture Number) field to indicate that the Pasture polygons are derived and need to be updated with real information by the appropriate office.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) administers more public land - over 245 million surface acres - than any other Federal agency in the United States. Most of this land is located in the 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM manages rangelands throughout the west for the use of wildlife and livestock. The rangelands are divided into allotments and pastures for management purposes. The Rangeland Administration System (RAS) provides grazing administrative support and management reports for the BLM and the public. The Rangeland Administration system serves as an electronic calendar for issuance of approximately 18,000 applications and 2,400 grazing authorizations (Permits, Leases, and Exchange-of-Use Agreements) per year, eliminating the need for manually processing these forms. RAS also creates approximately 30,000 grazing bills per year. RAS provides distribution information to the Collections and Billings System (CBS) for tracking, collecting, and distributing grazing receipts. Additionally, the system maintains electronic files about allotments, authorizations, and grazing bill history.
The reports available on this website are generated from the information stored in the BLM rangeland administration electronic database. They include allotment information and operator information. Allotment information provided includes: allotment identification; size; amount of private, state and public land administered; amount of forage use authorized, both active and suspended, for all operators using the allotment; proportion of forage in the allotment produced on public land; existence of an allotment management plan and identification of the grazing operator(s). Operator information provided includes the: authorization number; name, address and date the authorization was issued, including expiration date; allotments used by operator; kind and number of livestock; and period of use and forage amount authorized for use by the operator.</suppInfo>

<measDesc>This national dataset is an aggregation from multiple datasets provided by the BLM Administrative States, please contact the distributor for additional information on provenance, history, accuracy and quality of a particular state's data. The logical consistency of this dataset reflects that of the source datasets. Each source dataset is run through a series of tests to verify that the data complies with the format specified in the Data Standard. ERRORS AND INCONSISTENCIES MAY STILL BE PRESENT IN THE DATA. The tests consisted of checking coded values for attributes against a domain of accepted values, checking that alpha-numeric values followed a valid format, and checking that numeric values were greater than zero. For the geometry, the topology was validated; however overlaps and gaps can still be found.</measDesc>

<srcDesc>Congress, through the Taylor Grazing Act and Federal Land Policy and Management Act, has directed the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to authorize and administer livestock grazing on public lands in the sixteen western States. This Manual sets forth the objectives, responsibilities, and policies for the management and administration of livestock grazing on BLM’s public lands, exclusive of Alaska. Proper management and administration of livestock grazing is essential to protect the health of the public lands and provide stability to the western livestock industry dependent upon the public rangelands.</srcDesc>
